Commercial fishing is a mainstay in Maine's economy in addition to agricultural products such as blueberries, apples, maple syrup, and potatoes. The Burnham Tavern, built in 1770 and located in Machias, was a rendezvous point for local patriots during the American Revolution. The Tavern is an excellent example of the design and technology of the time and is now a museum open to the public.
