Following World War II, Minnesota's economy boomed with an increase in farming and technology. Minnesota was also well known for its soft-ore mines, which produced a large amount of iron ore for well over a hundred years. The modern IDS Tower is the tallest building in Minnesota and was designed by world-renowned architect Philip Johnson. Other notable structures in Minnesota include the formidable Minneapolis Institute of Arts building with its stunning Beaux-art façade designed by McKim, Mead, and White and elegant Pillsbury Hall (1889), constructed in the Richardsonian Romanesque style, one of the oldest buildings on the University of Minnesota campus.
