Architectural Drafting in Missouri

Missouri was obtained from France as part of the historic Louisiana Purchase and eventually joined the Union as the 24th state. It was nicknamed "The Gateway to the West" since many settlers gathered in Missouri to begin their journey west. One of the most recognizable structures in Missouri is the famed Gateway Arch, located in St. Louis. The Gateway Arch was designed in 1947 by architect Eero Saarinen and engineer Hannskarl Bandel and constructed between 1963 and 1968. It is the only structure in the world based solely on the catenary arch. It is 630 feet tall and 630 feet wide at its base. The legs are 54 feet wide at the base, narrowing to 17 feet at the arch.
