Oregon became the 33rd state in 1859. Its capital is Salem, but the largest city is Portland. Oregon is known for its scenic beauty, from Mt. Hood and Crater Lake to lush green forests and rolling meadows. Oregon is also home to marble caves that exhibit impressive stalactites and stalagmites. The Pacific Building is a historic office building located in Portland. It was designed by local architect A.E. Doyle's firm and is a classic example of the popular Italianate buildings common in the early twentieth century. The Pacific Building is the first structure in Portland to house an underground parking garage.
